Test Your Food for Gluten in About 3 Minutes
Eating gluten-free can come with a lot of questions, especially at restaurants, while traveling, or anytime you didn't prepare the food yourself. NIMA gives you another tool to help take some of the guesswork out of eating gluten-free.
Simply place a pea-sized sample of food into a NIMA testing capsule, insert it into the sensor, and get a result in about 3 minutes.
NIMA detects gluten from wheat, barley, and rye at levels of 10 parts per million (ppm) and has been independently third-party validated at 99% accuracy.

A Note From Jenny 🩷
“I’ve used NIMA for years, especially when traveling or eating at restaurants. I don’t use it instead of asking questions, reading labels, or doing my usual gluten-free due diligence. I think of it as one more tool that can give me additional information when I’m unsure about something I’m about to eat.”

NIMA Gluten Sensor FAQs
Does the NIMA Sensor come with testing capsules?
Yes. The standalone NIMA Sensor includes one capsule for your first test. Each capsule is single-use, so you'll need additional capsules for future tests.
Where do I buy additional NIMA testing capsules?
Additional NIMA Gluten Capsules can be purchased directly from NIMA. Each box contains six single-use capsules.

What's the difference between the NIMA Sensor and Starter Pack?
The Sensor is a good choice if you want the device and are comfortable
purchasing additional capsules separately.
It includes the Sensor, one capsule, USB-C charging cable, and travel bag.
The NIMA Starter Pack gives you more testing supplies from the start. It includes the Sensor, 12 capsules plus one bonus capsule, USB-C cable, and travel bag.
How long does a NIMA test take?
About three minutes.
What does NIMA test for?
NIMA detects gluten from wheat, barley, and rye at 10 ppm or higher in the portion of food being tested. It does not test for other allergens such as dairy, peanuts, soy, or tree nuts.
Can I use NIMA at restaurants?
Yes. Its portability makes restaurants and travel common use cases. You take a small sample from the food you want to test and run the test at the table.
Does a “no gluten detected” result mean my entire meal is gluten-free?
No. This is important. NIMA tests the specific portion of food placed in the capsule, not the entire dish. Gluten can be unevenly distributed, particularly in mixed dishes. NIMA should be used as an additional source of information, not as a replacement for reading labels, asking questions, or following medical guidance.
Can NIMA test every type of food?
No. NIMA is best suited to solid and semi-solid foods that can be sampled evenly. Certain foods, particularly fermented or hydrolyzed foods such as soy sauce and beer, cannot be reliably tested. Some liquids, oily foods, highly acidic foods, and other challenging foods require special sampling considerations. Follow NIMA's testing instructions for the food you're testing.
Is NIMA a medical device?
No. NIMA is a consumer gluten-detection tool, not a medical or diagnostic device, and it should not replace medical guidance or allergen labeling.
